Weather & Best Time

Hot summers; pleasant October to March

Khajuraho Temple Complex

Khajuraho's temples were raised by the Chandela dynasty between the 9th and 11th centuries, and today around 25 of the original 85 structures survive. The Western Group, enclosed in a manicured park, holds the finest of them all — the Kandariya Mahadeva Temple, with its soaring shikhara and more than 800 sculptures, alongside Lakshmana and Chitragupta temples.

What to See in Khajuraho

  • Western Group of Temples: Kandariya Mahadeva, Lakshmana, Chitragupta and Vishwanath temples in one walkable UNESCO site.

  • Eastern Group: A quieter cluster of Jain and Hindu temples, including Parsvanath and Adinath.

  • Khajuraho Archaeological Museum: A compact collection of sculptures from the temple complex.

  • Sound & Light Show: An evening retelling of Khajuraho's history, staged against the temples.

Travel Tips for This Trip

  • Visit Early: The Western Group is at its most atmospheric in the first hours of the morning, before the tour groups arrive.

  • Dress Respectfully: Cover shoulders and knees when entering the temples.

  • Best Season: October to March stays pleasant; the festival of Khajuraho Dance usually runs in February.

  • Combine the Route: Khajuraho pairs naturally with Orchha and Varanasi, and your KoiKoi Travel coordinator can arrange the connections.
